Sundays are for sidecars

Ryan got the sidecar mounted to his motorcycle this weekend. Sunday was a gorgeous day so we took it for a spin around town. You cannot believe the number of people that stop and stare at that thing. I’m su

After a long-time obsession with stationary and letterpress, Ryan and I decided to buy a printing press. We went to the Museum of Printing in Andover and tried to learn a little more about what we were getting ourselves into. We originally wanted a smaller table top press but quickly learned that we would be limiting the sizes we would be able print. Because we had the space for a larger printer we decided on an 8 x 12 Chandler and Price platen press.

After getting it home (and having a tow truck take it off the trailer for us) we began the messy process of refurbishing it. We stripped off all of the old paint and about a hundred years of old ink before we repainted it it’s original black. We took the entire thing apart so that we could learn exactly how it worked and to replace a few of the parts. Every time a piece came off I would become more and more certain that it’d never go back together but about two weeks later we put the last piece back in place and it runs like perfectly.

We spent one night at Vanessa and Matt’s place in Rochester and then headed to Lake Canandaigua where Vanessa’s mom lives. We went out on the boat, met some friends and had such a great time.

Moving to Boston and not knowing anyone was hard. But it was well worth it to meet these lovely ladies. Julie, Vanessa and I all started at Arnold within two weeks of each other and have been friends ever since. We’ve all since moved on from Arnold but we still get together every chance we can. Vanessa moved to Rochester, NY last year and Julie and I finally took a trip to visit. The first stop was to head to Canada and check out Niagara Falls. We even went out on the Maid of the Mist and got soaked!

On our last morning in London we decided to wander over to the Palace to see the changing of the guard I overestimated how long it would take us to get there and after reading online how hard it is to see if we didn’t get there early we arrived about 2 hours early. And it was raining. And cold. We had perfect spots to stand, right up against the gate directly in front of one of the guard posts. There was a lot of walking and marching and yelling and all of that. Then the guards band came out to perform we couldn’t help but laugh when they started to play ‘New York, New York’ by Frank Sinatra.

The whole time we were there people in the crowd kept saying that because the flag was flying it meant the Queen was inside. I’d heard that too but wasn’t sure if it was really to be believed. But after about 2 hours of standing outside in the cold and rain, the queen got in her purple car and drove away right by all of us.

Such a beautiful day in London meant we had to explore the city by foot. After the tour of Westminster we headed across the street to Big Ben.
