Bridge

The weather last weekend looked spectacular in Boston so we decided to make it a nature day and head to the White Mountains in New Hampshire. Turns out 70 and sunny in Boston means 45 and cloudy in the mountains. It was a very pretty drive though, this bridge was just one of our many pit stops along the way.

It rained. A lot. All weekend. It’s a good thing I really love my rain boots.

RAD

The RAD letters are another Brimfield find that Ryan picked up in September. They have been on the wall for a few months but they hadn’t been lit yet. The Christmas lights weren’t the final solution to get them glowing but I was definitely excited to get the holiday decorations out again!

Ryan Kite Flying

Sunset Kites

An unlikely occurrence in Boston, but the weather actually cooperated this weekend. Sunshine, above freezing temperatures and steady 25-30 mph winds combined to create absolutely perfect kite flying conditions. From mid-afternoon until the sun set we flew beautiful kites, took pretty pictures and enjoyed being outside after a long winter.

VT Farm Volkswagon

Never one to hide my absolute love for the Volkswagen Beetle, I saw this one at a farm in Vermont and couldn’t resist taking a picture. Imagine how happy this cute little orange car must have been back in it’s day!

Braciola!

Pronounced “bra’zhul” for all of you non-Italians out there, those would be the little meat roll-ups on the top right. My role in this feast was mainly to stay out of the way, but I made a few meat balls too.

Mid-Century Upholstery

I take no credit for the refinishing of the chair itself, but I did help with the color and pattern choice for the reupholstery. Still working out the logistics of getting the material to actually stick to the seat, but this was a step in the right direction.

Coconut Chex

The chocolate chip cookies didn’t come out quite right, but the coconut chex mix was a total hit at the super bowl party. It was really, really easy but the recipe made a ton. Make sure you have lots of people to help eat it! Here’s how:

1 14-oz box Corn Chex
1 16-oz box Golden Grahams
3 cups natural, unsweetened coconut shreds
3 sticks margarine (DO NOT USE BUTTER)
2 cups sugar
1 16-oz bottle Karo Syrup

In a huge bowl sprayed with lots of Pam, combine cereals and coconut. Stir to combine. In a medium sauce pan, melt margarine, then add sugar and Karo Syrup. Bring to a boil and continue cooking for 3 minutes. Pour the hot syrup over the cereal mixture, then stir with a long-handled spoon until the cereal mixture is evenly coated. Spread out onto waxed paper to cool.

Super Bowl Hike

Crossing Bridges

I got to spend the Super Bowl with really great friends eating tons of delicious food (see next post) but the best part was probably the long hike we took in the woods before the game. We walked a few miles and took some cool pictures along the way. We even ventured out onto a frozen pond that would be absolutely perfect for ice skating. It was fun to play outside the city for an afternoon.
